Ephemera
is a newly emerging vocal improvisation group based in Ithaca, NY.
We are a circle of women who come together in song to explore our edges, and give voice to what is discovered. We sing mostly improvised pieces, some with more structure than others.
We use rhythm, harmony, dissonance, and spoken word while exploring various musical styles and traditions to create unique, in the moment musical experiences. Almost nothing is pre-determined. There is always room for the wild hare of creation to sneak in the back door or come barreling down the center aisle.
To borrow from one of our many teachers, Rhiannon, our intention is to "meld intuition and invention with skill and heart. Delve into the possibilities of spontaneously composed music and the language of storytelling."
